Young drivers will be at different stages of their journey

It's always best to avoid thinking that one approach is right for everyone.

Different characters, each at their own level

As well as having their own personalities, young drivers will each be at different stages of the learning to drive process.

Of course, there might also be some young people who haven’t even thought about learning to drive.

Here are some of the main stages that young people will be at on their driving journey:

Pre-drivers – not old enough to drive yet, but plan to as soon as they can
Learners – currently under instruction with provisional licences
Young drivers – already qualified with some experience behind the wheel
Late starters – they might learn to drive but are putting it off for now
Non-drivers – have no plans or the resources to learn to drive however are nonetheless, road users.

More about young people staying safe on the roads even as non-drivers.
