Theatre in Education: The Journey

Road Safety Scotland has been using Theatre-in-Education (TiE) as a method of providing road safety education to different sectors of the community, but predominantly schools for a number of years.

The Journey

The Theatre in Education (TiE) programme is part of a planned curriculum programme involving different ways of presenting key road safety messages.

Forum theatre is particularly well suited to dealing with the complexity of raising awareness, debating issues and coming to terms with social pressures and alternative behaviours. ‘The Journey’ is a play which explores the developing relationships between a group of young friends as they journey through primary school towards secondary school.

Road Safety Scotland have developed a series of post show lessons which can be used to reflect upon the performance and to continue the road safety discussion. Each lesson plan explores a different theme.
